Abstract

We show that Generalised Clifford Algebras (G.C.A.) arise naturally in the formulation of the statistical mechanics of spin systems which generalise the well-known Ising model. A special one-parameter automorphism exhibits remarkable properties and leads to the introduction of lattice fermion fields with “exotic” statistics, nowadays thought to be relevant in some physical situations (such as charge fractionalisation).
