Abstract

Transition metal dichalcogenides have provided us with some of the best examples for the illustration of both the physics of low-dimensional compounds and intercalation chemistry. Their structure is made of MX2 layers built up from [MX6] octahedra as in TiS2, or [MX6] trigonal prisms as in NbS2 or NbSe2. The latter compounds allowed for the first time an experimental observation of a charge density wave (CDW) [1].
