Abstract
The relief efforts mounted by the Dutch left-wing political parties and the exile organisations of the SPD and KPD in the Netherlands can only be seen against the background of Dutch government attitudes towards left-wing politics and the circumstances pertaining in 1933. The purpose of this chapter is to show how the Dutch governments of the 1930s reacted to the influx of political refugees, and to highlight the steps taken, over and above those applied to other refugee immigrants, to control their admission, residence and activities in the Netherlands.
