Abstract

A short review on the pharmacology of current antidiarrhoeal therapy is presented. Fluid replacement therapy and symptomatic therapy are useful in the treatment of diarrhoea of varying origin. The pharmacology of loperamide, alpha-2-agonists, anti-inflammatory drugs, chlorpromazine, trifluoperazine, parasympatholytics and serotonin-2-antagonists is discussed.
