Preliminary Investigations on the Faunistics and Ecology of Hong Kong Trichoptera

  • Conference paper
Proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium on Trichoptera

Part of the book series: Series Entomologica ((SENT,volume 39))

Summary

An analysis of the composition and geographic affinities of Hong Kong Trichoptera has not previously been attempted. This is no doubt a direct consequence of the paucity of available information. The data reviewed herein are derived from the results of collections in Hong Kong over the last 5 years, in addition to a survey of the Asian Trichoptera literature. The results indicate that Hong Kong caddisflies comprise a predominance of warm-adapted taxa with a close affinity to tropical Oriental faunas. However, the potential for very high trichopteran diversity in the territory is not realized as a consequence of habitat limitation brought about by environmental degration.
