Trichoptera Sub-Fossils from Temperate Running Water Sediments

  • Conference paper
Proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium on Trichoptera

Part of the book series: Series Entomologica ((SENT,volume 39))

Summary

Sub-fossil caddis larval remains were extracted from sediments collected from two archaeological sites, one by a brook in Birmingham, the other from the banks of the river Severn at Stoutport Both watercourses are now polluted, the brook is very badly polluted.

The species identified can be found today in the English Midlands, e. g. Cheumatopsyche lepida and Hydropsyche contubernalis from the river, Silo pallipes and Drusus annulatus from the brook. However no exact parallel can be drawn with the present day as the now rare species Lasiocephala basalis was present in both samples.
