Abstract
In the context of the current interest in the explanatory role of parameters for language acquisition, it is interesting to speculate whether parameters are relevant only to first language (L1) acquisition or whether they can also explain aspects of non-primary language learning, particularly second language (L2) acquisition. I shall argue that the parametric approach to UG raises potentially interesting research questions for the L2 acquisition field, which I shall outline here.
