Conventional methods of genetic analysis in wheat

  • Chapter
Wheat Breeding

Part of the book series: Wheat Breeding ((TLB))

Abstract

The aim of genetic analysis in wheat, as in other species, is to understand the way in which different characters are inherited. For characters where variation is qualitative with discrete, clearly discernible phenotypes the questions asked are:

  1. (a)

    How many loci are involved?

  2. (b)

How many alleles at each locus?

  3. (c)

    What are their dominance properties?

  4. (d)

    Do different loci interact?
