ACCORD : Developing Concepts Towards Integration of Analysis and Design

  • Conference paper
Esprit ’89

Abstract

This paper outlines some concepts developed in ACCORD to help integrate analysis and design of systems into a coherent computer aided environment. Such concepts include : computational speed-up through concurrent processing, on-line access to engineering expertise, data sharing across engineering domains.

Four engineering domains, pertaining mostly to electronics systems, were selected for the development and demonstration of the above concepts, viz : electromagnetics (and more particularly device modelling), life cycle costing, reliability prediction, thermal management. This project will end up in a year with the following software packages :

  1. 1)

a library of mathematical routines optimized for concurrent processing (APPEAL),

  2. 2)

a novel life cycle costing software facility,

  3. 3)

an advanced thermal engineering software environment featuring on-line access to specialist expertise,

  4. 4)

an advanced reliability engineering software facility featuring knowledge-based assistance to the user.

All packages can either be used separately or integrated via a common Database Management System (INGRES). A demonstration on a VAX station will be available at the 1989 Esprit Week.
