Introduction
The concept of food justice has taken central stage in contemporary food discourse and is at the core of a rich and lively field of study (Gottlieb and Joshi 2010; Glennie and Alkon 2018). Its main use is within contemporary food activism and food movements that uphold food justice as their chief aim (Sbicca 2018). In fact, the expression “food justice” sometimes metonimically refers to a form of social justice movement, which sees a (global or partial) reformation of food systems as a key to promote more equitable and fair societal structures (Loo 2014; Cadieux and Slocum 2015).
This entry focuses on the numerous philosophical issues that underscore the contemporary conversation on food justice, presented based on the philosophical branch they pertain to and, thus, the philosophical literature that they do (or that they could) rely upon.
