Definition
Life satisfaction is the cognitive evaluation of quality of life as a whole. The construct was defined by Shin and Johnson (1978) as “a global assessment of a person’s quality of life according to his chosen criteria” (p. 478).
Description
According to Andrews and Withey (1976), positive affect (PA), negative affect (NA), and life satisfaction (LS) make up the three separable components of subjective well-being (SWB). The first two components (PA, NA) refer to the emotional or affective aspects, whereas LS refers to the cognitive-judgmental aspects (Diener, 1984).
