This paper focuses on damage control design of SMA dampers in steel frames. A parametric study based on time history analyses is carried out on a frame bridge pier with axial-type SMA damping devices. The parameters examined are design parameters of strength ratio α F and stiffness ratio α K ..Three JRA recommended Level 2 Ground Type 2 ground motions are used as inputs. Design recommendations are suggested following results of the parametric study.
