Samenvatting

Het begrip kwetsbare oudere is relatief nieuw, maar is de laatste twee decennia steeds meer ingeburgerd geraakt bij hulpverleners, beleidsmakers, cliëntenorganisaties, verzekeraars en andere betrokkenen. Door verschillende perspectieven op kwetsbaarheid is nog altijd discussie gaande over de aard en definitie van dit begrip. Men is het er wel over eens dat kwetsbare ouderen een vergroot risico lopen op negatieve gezondheidsuitkomsten, zoals functiebeperkingen, opname in een ziekenhuis of zorginstelling en zelfs overlijden. Voortvloeiend uit de discussie over de aard en definitie zijn er verschillende meetinstrumenten ontwikkeld om deze groep ouderen in kaart te brengen. Dit leidt tot grote variatie in prevalentieschattingen. Deze variatie kan van grote invloed zijn op de inzet van bijvoorbeeld zorgprofessionals en daarom is het belangrijk om onderzoek te (blijven) verrichten naar de definitie van kwetsbaarheid en het meten ervan.
