Il tema “matematica e cultura” di solito identifica la cultura con quella degli adulti. La matematica influisce e ispira campi come la pittura, la musica, l’architettura, l’animazione, la danza e molti altri. Al contrario, non viene molto esplorata la cultura dei bambini – infatti, molti adulti rimangono sorpresi alla sola idea che ci sia una cultura dei bambini. Esiste dawero qualcosa del genere? Owiamente, sappiamo che i bambini, come gli adulti, coltivano l’arte e la musica; ma i loro tentativi vengono generalmente considerati incompleti, delle versioni non formate come quelle degli adulti. In questa prospettiva, un bambino musicista viene semplicemente visto come un’apprendista, una versione incompleta,“sgrammaticata” di un musicista adulto.
