Abstract
The plants, Capparis masaikai Lévl. (local name mabinlang), which grows in the subtropical region of Yunnan province in China, bears fruit of tennis-ball size. The mature seed is used as traditional Chinese medicine and elicits a sweet taste. The seeds of C. masaikai contain the heat-stable sweet protein named mabinlin.
