Abstract
Despite recent developments in various imaging modalities, including computed tomography (CT), ultrasonography (US), and magnetic resonance (MR), angiography remains an important method for the diagnosis and treatment of hepatic tumors. The mapping of the hepatic artery, portal vein, and hepatic vein anatomy in a single film is only possible with hepatic angiography. Hepatic artery catheterization has become an effective tool for the treatment of liver tumors by embolization and infusion. Although CT and US have greatly improved hepatic mass detection compared with using the nuclear scan alone, with the improved superselective catheterization technique hepatic angiography is still capable of providing the most specific information in tumor diagnosis. The new concepts of hepatic tumor angiography and the changing role of angiography with respect to other imaging modalities will be discussed in this chapter.
