Abstract
In recent years the analysis of progression and irreversibility in brain ischemia has advanced considerably. Techniques of evoked response recording in relation to blood flow, of extracellular ionic analysis, and of tissue metabolism, either by detailed microbiochemical techniques from defined areas of ischemia or from in vivo analysis by spectrometric methods, have considerably increased our understanding of the disintegration in neural function occasioned by a progressive ischemia. We are further along the road to understanding the scientific basis of infarction then we were 10 years ago.
