Abstract
The 17O Knight shift K and spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 has been investigated in YBa2Cu4O8. The Knight-shift vs magnetic-susceptibility relation indicates that the s-like spin at the planar oxygen site is induced by the neighboring copper 3d spin. The distinct behavior of 1/T1 at the planar Cu and O sites suggests that the antiferromagnetic fluctuations are enhanced at temperatures just above Tc. The 1/T1 data for YBa2Cu4O8 are similar in character to those for oxygen deficient YBa2Cu3O7−x.
