Abstract
The number of concrete platforms on the continental shelf in the North Sea is increasing steadily and has reached 15 today. Most of them are produced in Norway where the conditions are particularly advantageous for such production starting in dry dock and continuing in deep fjord. The concrete mix has gone through more faces, and strength has been increased each time. The experience, now 15 years, with concrete structures in the North Sea has been excellent.
The longtime stochastic loading makes it necessary to consider the fatigue behavior of the concrete platforms. The dynamic strain of concrete may be greater than the time dependent creep. Recent research results are applied in simplified rules for fatigue life of reinforced concrete structures. These rules are discussed.
