Abstract

Cathodic protection is quite effective for corrosion prevention of marine steel structures in seawater and on the sea bottom. Design standards for the application of cathodic protection are still inadequate in Japan. Therefore, the authors carried out experiments on cathodic protection to obtain data in various environments such as normal seawater, low temperature seawater, low salinity seawater, polluted seawater, and flowing seawater.

As a result, basic data for cathodic protection design, including the relationship between cathodic potential and corrosion prevention rates for steel materials in various seawater environments, appropriate cathodic protection current density, etc., were obtained. The results are reported as follows.

This study was carried out with the cooperation of the Public Works Research Institute of the Ministry of Construction and the Juridical Foundation of the Public Works Research Center.
