Introduction
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is becoming more common in children. The increasing prevalence of T2DM is linked to an increase in obesity (Harris 1989). The rise in obesity is attributed to poor diet and sedentary life style (Engelgau et al. 2005). Children with T2DM may be at a higher risk for rapid development of diabetes complications including microalbuminuria and myocardial infarction (Flint et al. 2011). Thus, it is important to recognize the risks of diabetes, do early screening, optimize diabetes control, and reduce complications.
