Vibrational Circular Dichroism Spectra of Selected Chiral Polymers

Abstract

The vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) and absorption spectra of (−)-poly(menthyl methacrylate), (−)-poly(menthyl acrylate), and (−)-poly(menthyl vinyl ether) are reported and compared to those of (1R, 2S, 5R)-(−)-menthol in solution in CCl4, from 830 to 1500 cm-1. Many VCD peaks are common to both menthol and the corresponding polymers, but there is evidence of other peaks that are characteristic for each of the polymers.
