Abstract
We wish to explain π-N scattering in the energy regions where it is a one-channel problem,or where the one-channel approximation is good. We shall see that this means the energy region up to 600 or 700 MeV (lab. system), and in addition it includes the case of several resonances at higher energies. The reasons why we consider only the one-channel approximation are (a) it is a simple case to treat, (b) we do not really have any good techniques at present for treating the two-channel or several-channel cases.
