Die meisten kongenitalen Herzdefekte sind Folgen von Mißbildungen. Eine wichtige Rolle spielt in manchen Fällen eine fötale Endokarditis mit sekundären Veränderungen, von welchen viele im rechten Herzen gelegen sind.
