Zusammenfassung

Die medizinische Anwendung von Lithiumsalzen wird durch die geringe therapeutische Breite des Lithiumions erschwert. Ähnlich wie bei der Therapie mit z.B. Herzglykosiden oder Theophyllin, wo die optimale Dosierung ebenfalls anhand des Serumspiegels überprüft wird, sind deshalb einige Kenntnisse der Pharmakokinetik notwendig, um einen Lithiumserumspiegel richtig zu interpretieren und um in der jeweiligen therapeutischen Situation (z.B. erste Einstellung auf Lithium, Kontrolle der laufenden Therapie, Überprüfung der Patientencompliance, Diagnose einer Intoxikation oder Dosiskorrektur nach Beginn einer relevanten Zusatzmedikation) die richtigen Kontrollmaßnahmen im richtigen Zeitintervall auszuwählen.
