Zusammenfassung
Chinas Wandel zur Konsumgesellschaft kann als einer der weitreichendsten sozialen Prozesse angesehen werden, die das 21. Jahrhundert mitbestimmen. China nimmt die Rolle des größten Verbrauchermarkts der Welt ein. Das vorliegende Kapitel skizziert diese Entwicklung und diskutiert heute vorherrschende Konsummuster. Dabei zeigt es auf, dass die Schnelligkeit der chinesischen Verbraucherrevolution sowie die einzigartigen Umstände dieser Veränderungen zu einem Verbraucherverhalten und zu Erwartungen führen, die nicht unbedingt dem Muster anderer, beispielsweise europäischer oder nordamerikanischer Märkte folgen.
