Zusammenfassung

Trotz der weltweiten Verbreitung, die das Spanische aufgrund der kolonialen Expansion ab dem 16. Jh. erfahren

hat, sind die Aussprachedifferenzen zwischen europäischen und amerikanischen Varietäten geringer als etwa die lautlichen Unterschiede zwischen europäischem und brasilianischem Portugiesisch. Sprecher verschiedener spanischer Varietäten verstehen sich untereinander vergleichsweise problemlos. Die dennoch bestehende dialektale Varianz wird zunächst kurz umrissen, bevor zentrale Aspekte der segmentalen und prosodischen Phonologie aus einem panhispanischen Blickwinkel dargestellt werden. Dabei steht nach einem Überblick zum spanischen Lautsystem zunächst das Erfassen systemhafter lautlicher Prozesse im Rahmen der phonologischen Theoriebildung im Mittelpunkt, bevor mit Silbe, Akzent, Intonation und Rhythmus Eigenschaften diskutiert werden, die die Lautgestalt des Spanischen über das Einzelsegment hinausgehend charakterisieren (suprasegmentale Phonologie oder Prosodie).
