Zusammenfassung
Mit der Bezeichnung Schwermetalle wird willkürlich eine Gruppe von Metallen zusammengefasst, wobei eine eindeutige, wissenschaftlich akzeptierte Definition fehlt. Die Dichte von >5 g/cm3 oder die Toxizität werden in der Öffentlichkeit oft mit dem Begriff Schwermetall in Zusammenhang gebracht. In Listen von Schwermetallen werden oft auch Halbmetalle wie zum Beispiel Arsen und Thallium mit eingeschlossen.
