Zusammenfassung

Die natürliche Selektion bewirkt die Anpassung von Organismen an ihre Umwelt. Es ist deshalb weitgehend akzeptiert, dass die Selektion der wichtigste unter den Evolutionsprozessen ist. Evolution durch natürliche Selektion wurde zuerst von Charles Darwin und Alfred Russel Wallace als eine wissenschaftliche Theorie begründet. In diesem Kapitel werden wir zunächst die Grundlagen der klassischen Selektionstheorie einführen und darstellen, wie sich Selektion in haploiden und diploiden Populationen modellieren lässt. Daran schließt sich eine Beschreibung der Effizienz der Selektion als evolutionärer Prozess an und abschließend werden wir uns mit der genetischen Basis der Adaptation befassen und dazu Fishers geometrisches Modell der Adaptation einführen.
