Zusammenfassung
Ob Personen im höheren Erwerbsalter erwerbstätig sind oder nicht, ist in aller Regel das Resultat des Zusammenwirkens verschiedener Determinanten. Die Betrachtung nur einzelner Determinanten (z. B. der Gesundheit) läuft Gefahr, die Komplexität des Sachverhalts auf ein Niveau zu reduzieren, auf dem Ergebnisse nur noch geringe sozialpolitische und betriebliche Relevanz haben. In zahlreichen Studien wird der Zusammenhang von schlechter Gesundheit und vorzeitigem Erwerbsaustritt aufgezeigt. Im Beitrag wird argumentiert, dass dieser Zusammenhang vermittelt wird durch die Arbeitsfähigkeit und die Motivation, erwerbstätig zu sein, was sozialpolitische und betriebliche Implikationen hätte.
