Abstract

In the last decade, in what concerns injured athletes, sports psychology assumed a crucial role not only at a support level but also in rehabilitation. Over the years, several studies have shown the importance of psychological intervention during the recovery process on two different levels: motivation and the increase of athlete rehabilitation. This chapter presents a review on this domain, aiming to incorporate the psychology into sports injuries and showing the importance of this science. The initial part approaches injuries, causes, and risk factors that the literature associates to them. In a following part of the present chapter, we described the emotional experience during the lesion and the feelings and behaviors that athletes express. To conclude, this chapter focuses on sport psychology techniques that can be used to help injured athletes, proposing several intervention possibilities that could be used during the rehabilitation process.
