Zusammenfassung
Laut Statistik der FAO lag die weltweite Hülsenfrucht-Produktion im Jahre 2005 bei ca. 61 Mio. t (exklusive Soja). Rund ein Drittel der Erzeugung von Hülsenfrüchten entfiel auf Ackerbohnen und gut ein Sechstel auf Futtererbsen. Hinsichtlich der Produktionsmenge ist die Ackerbohne (abgesehen von Soja) die bedeutendste Leguminose. Etwa ein Zehntel der Welternte von Ackerbohnen wird gehandelt, dabei zählen China und Myanmar zu den wichtigsten Exporteuren und Indien und die USA zu den größten Importeuren. Im Jahre 2005 wurden ca. 20 Mio. t Erbsen (grüne Erbsen und Trockenerbsen) sowie ca. 214 Mio. t Sojabohnen produziert. Als Haupterzeugerländer von Sojabohnen sind die USA, Brasilien und Argentinien auch gleichzeitig die größten Exporteure. Sojabohnen werden zum Großteil von Japan, den Niederlanden und Deutschland importiert. In Europa hat der Anbau von Sojabohnen weniger Bedeutung, dafür aber der Import von Sojaschrot für die Tierernährung umso mehr. Dadurch ist die EU-Fleischproduktion von den Überseeimporten an Sojaschrot abhängig. Futtererbsen werden vorwiegend in Kanada produziert. Von den etwa 3 Mio. t erzeugten Futtererbsen gehen etwa zwei Drittel in den Export und werden besonders von Spanien und Indien importiert. Die Produktion von Leguminosen hat weltweit in den letzten Jahrzehnten besonders in den Industrieländern kontinuierlich zugenommen, während sie – besonders die Produktion von Futterleguminosen – in der EU immer mehr zurückgeht. Im Jahre 2005 wurden in der EU etwa 4,4 Mio. t Leguminosen erzeugt. Das waren etwa ein Zehntel weniger als fünf Jahre zuvor. In Deutschland wurden 2007 etwa 100.000 ha mit Körnerleguminosen (Futtererbsen, Ackerbohnen, Lupinen und andere) bestellt. Das ist ein Viertel weniger als im Vorjahr.
