Genus of the former class Ciliates. Specimens of several species are firmly attached at the skin of fish. Their mouth regions are surrounded by numerous rows of cilia, which lead food particles to the “mouth field,” where they become internalized within vacuoles. Multiplication occurs by formation of free-swimming swarmers, which finally attach at new fish hosts.
