Abstract
The Meuse river and its affluents form the most important resource of surface water in Belgium. They are located in the southern part of the country. A part of that water, used in the north of the country, is pumped in pipelines, but the largest part flows through navigation canals, linking the Meuse ans the Scheldt basin: the Albert Canal, and the canal from Brussels to Charleroi. The water is used at first to feed the canals and also for industrial and urban purpose.
