Abstract
Before Neopilina galatheae was described in the 1950s (LEMCHE 1957; LEMCHE & WINGSTRAND 1959), it had been thought that the “Monoplacophora” were extinct. Since this time around 20 recent species from the deep sea floor have been recovered (WAREN & GOFAS 1996). They are found mostly in water depths of several thousands of meters.
