Abstract
Limulus polyphemus from the Atlantic coast of the USA, as well as Tachypleus and Carcinoscorpius with three species in southeast Asia, from the remnants of a unity of marine spiders, which first appeared in the Silurian and which once had a worldwide distribution. With a length of up to three fourths of a meter the horseshoe crabs are the giants of the recent Chelicetata.
