Abstract

A 64 grey level vision system has been developed for real-time robot control and inspection. It is capable of processing up to 12 TV frames per second which is an order of magnitude faster than any commercially available grey scale vision system. The system consists of a programmable pipelined hardwired preprocessor for image conditioning, filtering, edge extraction, segmentation, and blob tracking and orientation, as well as for interpreting visual data output for a robot or external systems control and communications. The set-up for assembly of an electromechanical relay under vision control is described and the results are presented.
