Theoretical Issues in Multimedia Cartography

  • Chapter
Multimedia Cartography

Abstract

In cartography the predominant method to present spatial information was and still is the map. Cartographers have developed methods and formulated theories for map construction and map use. Cartographic multimedia presentations, however, go far beyond a single map. They are highly interactive systems where cartographers and map users can envision the geographic information by different media according to their particular purpose and interest. Multimedia cartography, therefore, requires methods and theories which concern not only the map but all other media.
