Abstract

Solidification of matter at the rate n usually results in the production of heat according to

$$ \dot Q = \dot nT\left( {S_{sol} - S_{liq} } \right) < 0, $$
((8.1))

because the liquid’s entropy is usually larger than the solid’s entropy, as the liquid state is a state of lower order than the solid state.
