Zusammenfassung

Heute gilt die vor mehr als 50 Jahren von Glaser und Strauss entwickelte Grounded-Theory-Methodologie (GTM) weit über die Soziologie hinaus als einer der prominentesten Ansätze in der qualitativen Forschung. In dem Beitrag wird die Geschichte der GTM – von den Gründervätern über die sog. Second Generation bis hin zu neueren Entwicklungen – skizziert. Es wird deutlich gemacht, dass sich die GTM trotz aller Diversität durch einen Grundbestand an Essentials auszeichnet, der sowohl für die Forschungsplanung (Theoretical Sampling, All is Data) als auch für das Arbeiten am Material (Theoretische Sensibilität, Konzeptualisierung) leitend ist. Abschließend wird exemplarisch eine Studie dargestellt, in der anhand von textuellen und visuellen Daten jugendkulturelle Praktiken untersucht wurden.
