Zusammenfassung

Dieser Beitrag liefert einen Überblick über das Feld des neuen US-amerikanischen Strukturalismus. Zunächst wird das grundlegende Verständnis von Strukturalismus erläutert und ein kursorischer Überblick über die wichtigsten Hauptakteur:innen und Konzepte des klassischen US-amerikanischen Strukturalismus um Harrison White gegeben. Es folgen die Kernkonzepte und wichtige Autoren des neueren US-amerikanischen Strukturalismus.

Eine umfassendere Studie des klassischen US-amerikanischen Strukturalismus würde sich ebenfalls mit den Strukturalismen um James Coleman, Linton Freeman und ihren Schülern wie Ronald Burt und Doug White beschäftigen.

    Granovetter ist außerdem institutionell für die Verankerung des Strukturalismus in den USA wichtig: er ist Herausgeber der Cambridge University Reihe Structural Analysis in the Social Sciences, in der seit 1987 methodische, konzeptionelle und theoretische Standardwerke der Netzwerkanalyse erschienen sind.

    Der von ihm herausgegebene Band der Zeitschrift Poetics (Jg. 27, Heft 2–3, März 2000) versammelt unter dem Titel „Relational analysis and institutional meanings“ viele wichtige Beiträge zum neueren US-amerikanischen Strukturalismus.
