Abstract
Historically, religion has played an important role in social life. However, this interaction has not been unidirectional. This study focuses on the impact of migration and urbanization on religious life. Its main purpose is to analyze the changing religious understandings of Jafari Shi ‘i Muslims, who have migrated from Iğdır to the Halkalı district of Istanbul. The research was conducted in Iğdır and Istanbul provinces using purposeful sampling in which ten people in Iğdır and ten people in İstanbul Halkalı were interviewed in person. Qualitative methods and related in-depth interview technique were used in this study and the findings were subjected to discourse analysis. This study explores the hypothesis that urbanization supports secular life and increases the possibilities of peace education.
