Zusammenfassung

Die Vegetation soll den Deichkörper schützen, ähnlich einer Haut. Dazu ist es notwendig, dass die Vegetation verschiedenste Anforderungen an den ober- und unterirdischen Wuchs und bezüglich der Anpassung an Standort und Nutzung erfüllt. Darüber hinaus sind Deiche aber auch Lebensräume für Pflanzen und Tiere. Aufgrund ihrer Länge und Verbindung von Naturräumen kommt ihnen hier eine besondere Bedeutung zu. In verschiedenen Studien wurde gezeigt, dass artenreiche Grasnarben besser mit Umweltänderungen wie Trockenstress umgehen können und Bodenerosion reduzieren. In diesem Beitrag werden Ergebnisse aus ökologischer und agrarischer Forschung zusammengestellt und auf Deichvegetationen angewendet. Ziel ist es, Impulse und Handlungsempfehlungen für das Design und die Anlage artenreicherer Grasnarben auf Deichen zu geben.
