Die Europawahl 2019 – wieder eine second-order election? Eine Analyse der Wahlergebnisse in den 28 EU-Staaten

Zusammenfassung

Auch die Europawahl 2019 weist deutliche Züge einer Nebenwahl auf, wie durch eine Analyse entlang des von Reif und Schmitt entwickelten ‚second-order election‘-Ansatzes herausgearbeitet wird: Im Vergleich zur jeweils vorangegangenen nationalen Hauptwahl war im überwiegenden Teil der EU-Staaten die Beteiligung an der Europawahl geringer und der Anteil der ungültigen Stimmen größer. Ferner erzielten in den meisten Ländern die Regierungsparteien geringere Stimmenanteile, während kleinere und neue Parteien Gewinne verbuchen konnten.
