Issues to consider when creating a voice lineup

Abstract

Apart from the already discussed influences (Chapter 3), further parameters can have an impact on listeners’ identification performance in a voice lineup. Previous research shows, for instance, that less-common voices are easier recognized than common voices (Sørensen 2012; Orchard and Yarmey 1995, cf. “distinctive voices”) and familiar voices are more easily to identify than less familiar voices (Yarmey et al. 2001). Neuroimaging studies revealed that neural representations of voices differ regarding different degrees of familiarity (Bethmann et al. 2012; cf. Shah et al. 2001).
