Discourse Perspective of Geometric Thoughts

Part of the book series: Perspektiven der Mathematikdidaktik ((PERMA))

Abstract

The findings of this study are reported in two sections: the results of the van Hiele Geometry pre-and post-test analyses and the results pre- and post-interview analyses. The results of the van Hiele geometry test analyses provide initial information of sixty-three primary pre-service teachers’ van Hiele levels of geometric thinking. The results of individual interview analyses reveal details of pre-service teachers’ geometric discourse at each van Hiele level. Both sections are aimed at investigating and describing changes in students’ geometric thinking in the context of quadrilaterals.
