Zusammenfassung

Die Frauen- und Gender-Forschung im südlichen Afrika konzentriert sich aufgrund politischer Entwicklungen vor allem auf Südafrika. Sie wird von Intellektuellen getragen, die teilweise bereits im Anti-Apartheidkampf aktiv waren. Schon Ende der 1980er-Jahre analysierten sie das spezifische Zusammenwirken von Race, Class und Gender in dieser früheren Siedlerkolonie und Sklavenhaltergesellschaft. Die wechselseitige Verstärkung der darauf basierenden Ungleichheiten galt als konzeptioneller Schlüssel, um multiple patriarchale Muster in der militarisierten und rassistischen Gesellschaft zu erfassen. Darauf bauen heutige Gender-Studien auf.
