Zusammenfassung

Im Beitrag wird zunächst die Vorgeschichte der Britischen Kultursoziologie rekonstruiert, mit besonderer Berücksichtigung des viktorianischen Kulturbegriffs und der britischen Soziologiegeschichte. Die Darstellung der gegenwärtigen Situation setzt mit einer Erläuterung der Verbindungen zwischen Cultural Studies und Kultursoziologie ein, aus welcher ihre kulturtheoretische Fundierung hervorgeht. Anschließend werden zentrale Themenfelder dieser Forschungsrichtung vorgestellt: empirische Forschungsmethoden, kultursoziologische Ungleichheitsforschung, Kultur und Technik, Kultur und Subjekt.
