Zusammenfassung
Im einleitenden Teil wird die Stadtpsychologie definiert, die der Frage nachgeht, wie Menschen städtische Umwelten erleben, wie sie darin leben und wie diese ihr Verhalten beeinflussen. Es werden Gründe aufgezeigt, warum die Stadtpsychologie in der interdisziplinären Stadtforschung bislang kaum eine Rolle gespielt hat. Dann werden die zentralen umweltpsychologischen Konzepte und Paradigmen vorgestellt. Im zweiten Teil werden acht Fragestellungen in Bezug auf das „Individuum-in-der Stadt“ behandelt: Stadtwahrnehmung und Stadtkognition, Ortsverbundenheit und urbane Identität, Dichte und Engeerleben, soziales Verhalten in öffentlichen Räumen, Mobilität in städtischen Räumen, Privatheit und Anonymität, Unsicherheitsgefühle in öffentlichen Räumen, Umweltbewusstsein und Naturerleben von Stadtbewohnern.

Der Gedanke, Kindern Naturerfahrungen zu ermöglichen, ist nicht neu. Schon vor 100 Jahren hatte man die Idee, Stadtkindern und Stadtbewohnern die Natur noch näher zu bringen als nur durch die Anlage eines Parks, indem man im neu gegründeten Stadtpark in Hamburg eine Milchwirtschaft mit Bauernhaus und Kühen einrichtete, die im Krieg zerstört wurde.
