Strategic Cultures in Europe

Abstract

Spanish strategic culture has evolved from a tradition of neutrality in the two World Wars and isolation throughout most of the Cold War towards a new role as an international security actor. This evolution has changed several elements of Spanish strategic culture and introduced new ones while others have remained the same. The result is a dynamic and sometimes contradictory pattern of behaviour in strategic affairs.
